Who am I and what qualifications do I have?

My sporting career

In 1995 I competed in my first international competition, the Scottish Snowboarding Championship which I won. With this win I was launched into a lifelong passion for sport. I spent 5 years in the British National Snowboarding team. I trained with other nations' teams in Europe and in the USA. This showed me that nobody has the right answer to the best technique because each technique has a time and a place where it outperforms the others. So my goal has been to amass and master every Snowboarding technique that is knowable.

I competed at 3 Junior World Championships. I didn't do particularly well, at them but they provided a good grounding for my future endeavors. I spent 5 years racing on the World Cups circuit, 2 world championships, the US Open, 2 US national championships, and I am the undefeated British national slalom champion from 2001.

My hypnosis career

After a rather nasty crash whilst snowboarding in March 2000, I had a session with a sports hypnotherapist. This crash caused me problems as, that whenever I saw a  situation similar to the one where the crash happened, I would back off. Now when I think back I can remember the crash. However,  when I think about it, I was not the one that crashed it was someone else. As the crash happened to someone else when I am competing while I was competing I saw it as I am free to race just as I would do before the crash. This is not problem anymore because it didn't happen to me.

This has kicked off a lifelong interest in the inner workings of the mind. In 2011 I  qualified, through the American Alliance of Hypnotherapists, to provide clinical hypnotherapy sessions. In 2018 I qualified from ICBCH as a specialist in Sports Hypnotherapy.

Over the years I have helped athletes in a wide variety of sporting disciplines and while each sport is different, and each client is different, they all have common threads. I would love to learn the nuances of your sporting experience so I can help you in the way you need. This is why we will spend a bit of time at the start of each session to establish goals for the session and/or long-term goals.

My coaching career

I have spent the last 20 years teaching and coaching snow sports and other sports. I have spent 14 years teaching snowboarding and skiing instructors how to teach and coach others. I have enhanced the programs that are used to teach new students so the students' time is safer and more enjoyable.

I can break down a set of moves on video so that they can be quantified and we can look at the cause-and-effect relationship of the move. This helps a student understand where their problem is coming from so it can be addressed. This is also incredibly helpful to the your Coach as they can see if the problem is based on biomechanics, because of fear or because of a lack of technique. We can also use this to identify what techniques are missing, or lacking, so that they can be worked on.
